The NM-AIST Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Luoga witnessed the launch of the East Africa Community “Skillsmatch” Online Platform at the Youlead Summit 2021 on 9th November in Arusha, Tanzania.
The online matchmaking platform using Artificial Intelligence “Skillsmatch” is an initiative of the regional project “Digital Skills for an Innovative East African Industry” (dSkills@EA) which is an extension of the ICT Centre of Excellence bases at NM-AIST and funded by Germany Government.
CERTIFICATE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology has partnered with Digitally Smart to offer a double-certification program in Digital Marketing.
The certificate course is delivered online. It consists of 4 weeks of instruction-led curriculum where participants are exposed to current trends and best practices in Digital Marketing. They learn about the main digital channels as well as the tools to leverage such channels to gain commercial advantage.

COURSE CONTENTS
There are four modules in this course:
Module 1 Digital Channels & Content Marketing
Broadly speaking, all digital marketing activities can be described as either paid or organic. This module examines the main difference between the two of them and provides a general overview of the key channels in each. In addition, the module reviews the importance of content marketing as a discipline and provides examples of how organisations can effectively use it in their businesses.
DURATION: 1 week
Module 2 Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
The SEO module examines the various tactics for enhancing a website’s position with search engines. The module covers the key concepts and terminology used within the field of SEO and equips students with the understanding of which are the main factors that influence a website’s visibility on the Search Engines.
DURATION: 1 week
Module 3 Web Analytics
The Analytics module provides insights about website visitors and about the range of specialist tools that are available to help you understand how to measure and monitor online traffic. This module reviews the basic analytics terminology and students discover how to align business Key Performance Indicators (or KPIs) with analytics goals.
DURATION: 1 week
Module 4 Social Media Marketing
The Social Media Marketing module showcases how to effectively engage with customers across social media platforms. Students appreciate the emerging trends in the social media space and the opportunity afforded by the ‘always connected’ social consumer.
DURATION: 1 week
ADMISSION CRITERIA
To enrol to this course, applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- holder of an undergraduate degree
- university student and completed 1 year of undergraduate study
- have a minimum of 2 years of formal professional experience
In addition, all applicants must have a good command in English.
FEES & PAYMENTS
Fees for the certification course are 242440 TZS. This includes the tuition, access to the online learning material, course evaluations, Digitally Smart certification and the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology certification.

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) on 12th October, 2021 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the East African Business Council (EABC) to reduce skills mismatch and upscale the digital transformation of the East African Community.
Speaking at the signing ceremony conducted at NM-AIST Guest of Honor Arumeru District Commissioner Eng. Richard Ruyango said that, the government recognizes the efforts made by the Nelson Mandela Institution of Science and Technology in partnering with various institutions to bring changes to the society.
“This is great move the Nelson Mandela Institution of Science and Technology has made which adheres in emphasizing the need and role of university –industry linkages to enhance employability of graduates” Said Honorable Eng. Ruyango
According to the NM-AIST Vice Chancellor Prof; Emmanuel Luoga said that the Public-Private Partnership or rather Academia Public Private Partnership(APPP) is very important in advocating innovation and research for industrial development whereby NM-AIST is an ambassador for supporting this movement.
“The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology encourages APPP as in the new corporate strategic plan aims to increase public-private partnership to strengthen outreach programs and increase public awareness and innovation” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Luoga
On the other hand Chief Executive Officer of EABC Mr. John Kalisa said that EABC will offer practical industrial placement for the academic in order to reduce skills mismatch and boost innovation towards a digital economy.
The signed Memorandum of Understanding partnership focuses on research, Innovation, entrepreneurship, technology transfer/commercialization, industrialization and investment.

The vice Chancellor Prof, Emmanuel Luoga urged the incubates to be confident and serious in their innovation to produce good results.
Prof. Luoga said that during the official opening of a two day Incubation Orientation workshop which is organized by VLIR-UOS Project No. Five (VLIR-UOS P5) at NM-AIST on 21-22nd October 2021.“We need to set example by conducting more research and come up with more innovation” Said Prof. Luoga
On his part, Deputy Vice chancellor Academic, Research and Innovation Prof. Antony Mshandete insisted the Incubates to be transformative in their research and Innovation.
The P5 is the project which has supported Research and innovation strengthening the capacity and equipping resources together with African Development Bank (AFDB) project.
The Signing Consortium Agreements for the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (N M-AIST), Innovation Based Incubation Centre was officiated on Monday 20th September, 2021 by the Vice Chancellor of NM-AIST Prof. Emmanuel Luoga whereby FOUR Incubators signed FIVE agreements which were also witnessed by the Institutional Legal Officer Advocate Mathias Safari, promising to implement the goals they have set for themselves now and in the future.
Prof. Luoga said that basing on the perceptive and future direction of NM-AIST Research and Innovation projects, strategic objectives will be able to bring about changes and positive attitude within the Institution including the establishment of Postgraduate skills and development programs and to support the existing centers to establish more incubation hubs.

He also insisted on facilitating local, external and International collaborators through the Mandela Investment Company (MIC) which has been recently established and hence fulfills the Institutional goal of “Academia for Society and Industry”.

In His keynote address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Institute, Academic Research and innovation (ARI) Professor Anthony Mshandete emphasized on the development of innovative research within NM-AIST and the need to focus on research that will bring productivity and solve problems to the society.
