NM-AIST primarily focuses on postgraduate and post-doc training and research in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) related fields, with sufficient doses of relevant business studies and social sciences ingredients. Life sciences (Bio-Sciences and Bio-Engineering) is being developed to become one of its niche-areas, taking advantage of the immense bio-diversity in countries forming its catchment area of NM-AIST.
NM-AIST seeks to stimulate and catalyze intensification of agricultural production, and value addition to the various natural products (agricultural, mineral, etc) produced in the region. Other main thematic areas being covered by the institution include Materials Science and Engineering, Energy, ICT, Mining, Environment and Water. Emphasis is being placed on linkage to society and the local industry, and scientific and technological response to local needs. The training curricula also seeks to accommodate, enable, stimulate and catalyze development of the innovativeness and entrepreneurship qualities inherent in the Y-generation for the benefit of SSA’s sustainable development. |
